Work in Local Hospitals in Kathmandu

Description and Impact

In Nepal, the health-care problems are varied and enormous.  Being one of the poorest countries in the world, the majority of people live in mass poverty and lack modern medical care and other social services, especially in rural areas.  In hospitals, the doctors and medical staff are overwhelmed due to lack of financial support, resources and supplies.  Despite these hardships the medical staffs are incredibly friendly and dedicated to improving the healthcare of Nepal.

What is the overall goal of the project?
As an intern you will work within one of the several hospitals in Kathmandu, helping the rural poor who come in for treatment.  Your internship will consist of making daily rounds with English-speaking Nepali doctors, during which they will explain the diagnoses and treatments that patients are receiving.  You may be quizzed on the spot to see what, based on some of the facts of the case, you may render for a diagnosis or treatment.  Our doctors love to test and challenge you on a daily basis!
