Volunteer in Local Hospitals in Kathmandu | Overview
Description and Impact
In Nepal, the health-care problems are varied and enormous. Being one of the poorest countries in the world, the majority of people live in mass poverty and lack modern medical care and other social services, especially in rural areas. In hospitals, the doctors and medical staff are overwhelmed due to lack of financial support, resources and supplies. Despite these hardships the medical staffs are incredibly friendly and dedicated to improving the healthcare of Nepal.
What is the overall goal of the project?
As a volunteer you will work within one of the several hospitals in Kathmandu, helping the rural poor who come in for treatment. Your project will consist of making daily rounds with English-speaking Nepali doctors, during which they will explain the diagnoses and treatments that patients are receiving. As a pre-med student or someone with an interest in public health, this is a great opportunity to learn about international healthcare.
