Preserve Traditional Medicine

Description and Impact

Many Belizeans and foreigners look to the traditional Medicine Man for his advice on curing illnesses and maintaining health. He is able to help people in the community by providing alternative medicine. Many times he recommends medicinal plants to address health issues, which can be obtained from his medical trail, the 1km Trail on his property. The owner is an ancient Mayan Medicine Man who opened the trail in 1999 after his teacher passed away at the age of 103. HIs knowledge of the 595 species of plants along the Medicinal Trail continues to have a great impact on the community. It is important to maintain the medicinal trail and preserve the Mayan ways of healing.

What is the overall goal of the project? The overall goal of this project is to promote alternative, natural medicine and preserve ancient Mayan healing knowledge and traditions.
