For years, the maltreated workers at Quito´s biggest landfill spent hours shifting through toxic garbage in unsafe and unsanitary conditions with no guaranteed salary. A local project was established to work with the community of inter-generational garbage scavengers,to improve their working conditions amd demand more rights and safer environmental conditions.

In addition to these successes, a daycare center and preschool serving babies and children was opened. Here, the dedicated team takes care of the infants with a mission of improving their prospects for the future. A medical clinic also exists at the site to ensure that all members of this community have access to adequate health care.
