A Little Respect

Description and Impact

Girls from impoverished backgrounds that are left on the streets with little resources suffer from malnutrition, constant stress and risk of exploitation. Without anywhere to turn to, it is extremely difficult for these young women to find gainful employment and work toward sustainable futures. They need housing and a proper support system to be able to flourish and grow.

What is the overall goal of the project? ProWorld’s community partner is a place for girls who have been orphaned or whose families are unable to feed and support them.  The girls are mostly between the ages of 12 and 19, and many of them attend school during the afternoon hours.  Centro Yanapanakusun provides its residents with valuable skills and knowledge of careers they might consider after leaving the center.  The girls all contribute to preparing meals, and some also spend some time working at the Hospedaje associated with the Yanapanakusun organization.
