Literacy Program – Primary Schools

Description and Impact

Despite the improvement of literacy over the last 20 years, illiteracy has continued to been a serious issue that has hindered the education and number of opportunities given to Belizeans. Services to help improve reading and writing skills are difficult to find in Belize. In order to address this problem, ProWorld Belize has launched a literacy/ Teaching English program in two primary schools. If you are considering a career in education and want to help a community in need, this is a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students to improve literacy and provide educational empowerment.

What is the overall goal of the project? The program aim is to provide a support system for children in primary schools in the Cayo district and an additional resource for their education. The overall goal is to contribute to a steady rise in literacy in Belize.
