Description and Impact

Violence against women is a serious problem in Brazil. Physical, sexual, and psychological abuse is associated with power and inequality in gender relations. Women in lower socioeconomic classes have fewer opportunities to gain an education and support themselves and are therefore more likely to fall victim to domestic violence and get trapped in the vicious cycle of abuse. ProWorld helps women who are survivors of domestic abuse through counseling, therapy, and legal services. ProWorld also seeks to address underlying issues by educating women and encouraging them to get involved in political issues that are relevant to women.

What is the overall goal of the project? The overall goal of this project is to support abused women and to address the underlying causes of domestic violence.

• Support survivors of domestic abuse– This program provides counseling, therapy and legal services to women.
• Education – ProWorld educates woman on pertinent political and other world issues  and empowers them to engage in politics.
