Water Conservation in Rural Villages | Overview
Rajasthan is a drought prone state in India and the communities in many of its districts face hardships due to scarcity of water. This has had an impact on the livelihood of communities and there has been an increase in migration from drought prone areas of the state to more lush areas where there is more of a livelihood opportunity. Due to this situation, ProWorld has partnered with local NGOs to make water accessible for communities and to also help improve the quality of water so that communities can overcome health related issues caused by contaminated water.
Working side-by-side with locals, you’ll have opportunities to work on some of the following:
- Development and implementation of new water conservation technologies
- Sanitation and clean water systems
- Coordinating with local organizations to promote water conservation
- Document community ownership on sources of water
- Construction of water wells
Skills and qualifications recommended for success:
- An interest in water accessibility, usage and management
- Ability to communicate in different ways/forms (other than just verbal English) to convey your views and thoughts
- Willingness to learn
- Typically your visits to villages will be restricted to the research that you are engaged with. The first week of your internship will be spent setting your goals with the office. While you will be able to spend time in the rural villages for study and research, you will spend most of your time documenting and prepararing the report.
