Intern at a Rural District Hospital | Overview
Description and Impact
Many people living in rural areas in Thailand suffer from diseases and medical conditions that can be easily prevented and addressed with early detection. Hill Tribe people face extreme poverty and discrimination and therefore access to quality health care is even more of an issue. ProWorld Thailand, in connection with a rural district hospital, serves roughly 80,000 residents who are predominately Karen Hill Tribe people. This hospital offers a variety of health services including health checks, treatment for communicable diseases, and public outreach. The hospital is the primary source of treatment for people who do not have access to health services in Chiang Mai.
What is the overall goal of the project?
The overall goal of this project is to provide treatment for the underserved Hill Tribe people.
- Health services - The hospital provides comprehensive care and a variety of services to thousands of people.
- Outreach – ProWorld Thailand makes a special effort to access isolated villagers. This often entails trekking into remote mountainous areas surrounding the district hospital.
