Help Street Kids | Overview
Description and Impact
Child labor is a hard reality in Cusco. In an impoverished family where every Sol counts, sending kids out onto the streets to sell candy, puppets, or trinkets is common practice. Children who go to school five days a week and work seven often don’t have the time or place to do their schoolwork or learn other useful skills.
What is the overall goal of the project? The center, run by the Peruvian National Police, seeks to provide street children with a space for daily instruction and homework help outside of their schools. As many children attend school early in the day, the program operates from the afternoon to the early evening. Children come to the center of their own accord, and many come every day without fail.
