Public Health Outreach

Description and Impact

This organization was founded in 2008 by a doctor with the intention of educating, sensitizing and creating a heightened awareness on the role environmental sanitation and education plays in the economic development of Ghana. Poorer communities don’t have the access to quality medical facilities or the ability to educate their children on the importance of environmental sanitation.  This organization combines community outreach, education and access to health facilities and resources to alleviate the general economic strain poor health takes on the communities of Ghana.

What is the overall goal of the project? The overall goal of this project is to empower youth to realize the importance of health and sanitation to the economic development of Ghana.  A large part of this effort is establishing a health center to supplement the efforts of the government in providing quality healthcare in an accessible and affordable manner.  Organizing workshops that educate the communities on health issues such as HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, along with highlighting the effects of hygiene and pollution on one’s health are important factors in creating a stronger and healthier community. Much of the impact begins behind the scenes writing grants and proposals, getting community member’s involved and gaining a grasp on what type of materials are needed for successful outreach.
