Education Starts in Preschool | Overview
Description and Impact
With 83% of its children in school, Ghana has one of the highest school enrollment rates in Africa. This is directly possible through the existence of schools such as this nursery, school and daycare that focuses on providing a safe and culturally rich environment for children of single parents, or working parents who cannot care for their children during the days and early evening hours. The private school and nursery serves about 70 students. There are five classrooms and four paid teachers. The enrolled students are children of parents with low-income jobs such as fishermen, making it difficult for them to pay their children’s monthly school fees. The school is very important to the families it serves, and for a nominal fee, the children are provided exceptional schooling, as well as after-school care.
What is the overall goal of the project? This school and daycare was created to help educate and care for the children of Cape Coast that would otherwise be left unattended and uneducated. For a nominal fee, these children are provided with exceptional schooling as well as after-school care. The attention and knowledge these kids are exposed to, ideally aids in the creation of a socially responsible and productive community member.
