Ecological Restoration and Research in Coastal Ecuador | Overview
Despite its small landmass, Ecuador is renowned for its megadiversity due to its variety of life zones, including: mangrove swamps, dry tropical forest, tropical cloud forest, and tropical lowland rainforest. In the coastal region, this program focuses on mangrove restoration and biomarine species, with other project options that involve direct interaction with the local community either in schools, hospitals or in the cacao cooperatives.
As an intern, you can choose to acquire field experience in the following areas:
- Ecotourism
- Small Business Development
- Agroforestry
- Organic Agriculture
- Public Health
- Sustainable Aquaculture
For interns interested in research projects, depending your skills/interests and ongoing research projects in the various satellite communities, you will be placed in a project and work under the supervision of local staff, environmental educators, and researchers.
Recommended Skills and Qualifications:
Intermediate Spanish and conservation experience or research interest in marine habitats/mangroves a plus.
