Don’t Forget the Elephants

Description and Impact

One of Thailand’s iconic animals, elephants needs lots of room to roam.  Unsustainable tourism has created widespread environmental problems in Thailand. Come join this ProWorld program to create and support more sustainable tourism options, protect and restore the local climate and support community development in these sensitive mountain communities. Without a sustainable habitat, elephants are at risk for extinction.  In just one year, this ProWorld program has:

  • Replanted more than 500 native trees and plants
  • Built several kilometers of firebreak
  • Installed irrigation systems
  • Surveyed and marked more than 80 acres of land for restoration

You can help us by:

  • Assisting by replanting forest land lost to encroachment
  • Constructing firebreaks and maintaining area
  • Researching and monitoring the conservation efforts
  • Seeking additional funding to support the project
  • Working on community development projects

All work is done in cooperation with the local community supportive of the conservation effort.

There is a 2 week minimum for this project.
