Caring for Endangered Species | Overview
Description and Impact
Brazil is home to 60% of the Amazon rainforest and is considered to have the greatest biodiversity of any country on earth. However, population, growth and an increasing demand for natural resources has led to the endangerment of hundreds of species and the destruction of complex ecosystems. Environmental education and awareness plays a key role in addressing these issues. ProWorld Brazil, in partnership with the Salvador zoo, is dedicated to the preservation of endangered species and their natural habitats. The zoo is an ecological refuge and leisure alternative to city life. It is home to 141 native species and serves to educate the public on important environmental issues. The highlights of the zoo also include the monkeys running around freely and the rare bird house. Volunteers and interns work alongside supervisors to care for the animals and further the mission of the zoo.
What is the overall goal of the project? The overall goal of this project is to provide care for the animals and raise awareness about Brazil’s endangered species.
