Assist in Special Education in San Jose

Description and Impact

Special education schools in San Jose are overcrowded, underfunded, and under staffed. Even in Costa Rica where the state places a high priority on the education of its citizens, children in special needs schools need more attention from staff. Volunteers can help these special needs children learn, grow, and become functioning members of society. Caring for underprivileged children with disabilities is an extremely fulfilling opportunity for volunteers.

What is the overall goal of the project? The goal of the project is to provide for special needs children while serving as a fulfilling experiential learning opportunity for our volunteers. Volunteers serve crucial roles in the physical and emotional development of the students. In Costa Rica, children with disabilities oftentimes do not receive proper care from their underprivileged families. The school’s years of success and experience help provide these crucial services to children with disabilities.
